Day 9 (Sept. 11th) - Today was a low key day. I scheduled nothing for today so we could have a break from sightseeing, relax on Sunday, and avoid tourist areas on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
First, we have heard church bells chiming throughout the day. I speculate this is in honor of the anniversary of 9/11. It is good day to remember what happened to our country a decade ago.
The morning started off a little tense. I need to work on my side project; Renae is also frustrated with the kitchen appliances. The combo washer/dryer took 4 hours just to wash 10 items. We also couldn't figure out how to unlock the cook top to cook anything. In the afternoon, Renae researched the Internet and found out how to unlock the child lock on the cook top.
We took a walk in the afternoon to
Le Jardin, d'Acclimatation, a large park near here. We've walked by two weddings so far. The first was at Saint Jean Baptiste church as we were coming to the apartment. The second was a Jewish wedding on the way to the park.

Shortly after we got to the park, it started to rain. We came back to the apartment, and the key code for the large green gate into the courtyard didn't work. I left an urgent voice message on the voice mail of the apartment manager just when a young man finally came up and opened the door for us. We then realized that....we were in the wrong courtyard! It was 2 buildings over from our building.

Most stores are closed on Sunday. Fortunately, we purchased groceries yesterday. We have a plan of attack for sightseeing tomorrow. Sarah & I went to the nearest Metro and purchased more metro tickets. It's cheaper to buy them in packs of 10 (
carnet).
