Oktoberfest = Munich Spring Break

Day 18 (Sept 20th) - It was a rough night for Renae.  She was hot, then cold and got up every hour or so.  Everyone was a little rough around the edges.

Ruth and I walked up to the main entrance building to buy a ticket for the bus/U-bahn.  The tent areas were packed with the same colored tents put up by tour companies for partying college-age students.  One of the employees was using rake to pick up all the trash and bottles left on the ground.  There’s a large tour bus that takes the rowdies to Oktoberfest and back.

We walk quite a ways to get to the U-Bahn station to get down to Marienplatz.  We got there in time to see the Glockenspiel at the New Rathaus with the moving figures .  From there we made to the Frauen Kirche, then back to Viktualien Market to have sausages for lunch.

After lunch, it took us a while to find a place to buy a Bavaria Castle pass to cover the whole family for 14 days.  We toured the Residenz/Palace of the Bavarian Kings.  While ornate, it was not overdone like the Chateau at Versailles.

Then we went to the Hofbräuhaus.  This is the quintessential beer house with oompah bands.  I ordered a maß of beer while Renae had a Weizen.  The girls got pretzels and ice cream.  We then came back to the campground and made it an early night.
